Home, Home on the Range

Deer and antelope probably play here. Certainly children do. But what about cattle and horses?

Vera’s beginning to wonder if Texas’ reputation was slightly overstated in Russia. In a state widely known for (or, at least, reputed to have) acres of cowboys, horses, and longhorn cattle, she’s seen these icons less than a handful of times during the last few months.

She has, however, spent some quality time on the HEB horse…

Ride Em, Vera!

…and on the Arborteum marble cows (whose birthplace was Italy).

Time to visit a ranch, pawdners. Texas’ fine reputation is at stake (steak?)

Score!

Vera’s first soccer game was Saturday.

She has had two practices and has just begun to learn how to handle the ball. The most important thing she’s learned? Make sure you know which goals is YOURS. She scored several goals during her last practice…for the other team!

On Saturday morning, she was really excited. She had the ball plenty, but mostly kicked it out of bounds. But during the second half, something clicked, and she scored three goals in a four-minute span. Her ball-handling skills visibly improved during the game, and with her speed and aggressiveness, she found herself in a lot of 1 on 3 situations and winning about half of them.
